Nipah Virus (NiV), The deadly disease.

Nipah virus is a deadly disease causing virus.  Which is the hottest news in the health sectors, causing deaths and casualties in southern india. Nipah is known to be a Zoonosis, Which refers to a disease, which is generally transmitted from animals to humans. The natural host of this virus is mainly fruit bats family, 'pteropus genus'. The virus is also greatly affected on pigs which are the intermediate hosts. That was how the virus was detected in 1999 in Malaysia. Nipah virus has caused a deadly outbreak in Malaysia causing several deaths and casualties. Pig farmers were first found to have affected then.

Outbreak in South india.

In southern india the disease and virus is believed to be spread out, carried from Bangladesh. Since, In 2004 Nipah had caused an outbreak in Bangladesh also. Here, there were no intermediate hosts as there was in malaysia. Instead the virus was spread by eating date palm which had a direct contact with the host bats.

Spreading.

Nipah virus is caused only by direct contact to the virus affected person or animals.

Signs and symptoms.

The nipah virus do affect brain causing inflammation. After exposure to the virus, the virus will have an incubation period of 5 - 14 days. followed by severe fever, head ache, disorientation,Mental confusion and even personality changes. Some patient also shows respiratory diseases during their early stage and a majority of them shows neurological disorder. The people hospitalised due to neuro illness were mostly dead, in the early out break reports. Those who are affected should be isolated in order to minimise casualties and must be given intensive care
